My Background and Experience:
I have been practicing as a CPA in Central Florida since March 2000. Prior to practicing in the field of accounting, my experience includes four years of management with what was then a small outfit called Ruby Tuesdays. Three of those four years were spent as General Manager. Starting as a waiter working my way through college, I was promoted to bartender and almost immediately into management. My time with Ruby Tuesdays was very valuable in learning how to manage a profitable business. I was 25 years old at the time running a $1.25 million restaurant with 40 employees. I will forever be grateful for the opportunities and learning experiences that Ruby Tuesdays afforded me. Nonetheless, I felt the need to complete my college education and returned to the University of Florida where I earned my undergraduate degree. Upon graduation, I landed a position in Orlando as a marketing manager with a national company based in Wisconsin. I was fortunate enough to excel in that position as well. In my second year of employment, I was nominated as marketing manager of the year and subsequently asked to serve as Marketing Trainer for the company. Not prepared to relocate to Wisconsin, I chose to keep my position in Orlando. Shorty thereafter, I was persuaded to accept a similar marketing position with another outfit in Miami. I worked in Miami as the Vice President of Marketing for the company and as President of a subsidiary spin-off company. Our clientele was primarily hospitals and physician groups and my territory extended from Miami to Jacksonville. My time in Orlando and Miami exposed me to the business side of the medical industry. I met with hospital patient account managers all over the state of Florida. Those were valuable learning experiences in the medical industry. Still not satisfied with my calling, I sought out a professional career counselor at Rollins College to whom I will forever be grateful. His testing pointed out that I would be happiest in an accounting career. After a good measure of denial, I returned to college in Orlando, UCF, and completed the necessary 36 hours of accounting required to sit for the CPA exam. Determined as ever and driven to succeed, I was able to pass the Florida CPA exam on the first sitting. After working with an outstanding firm in Orlando, I was fortunate to receive an offer from an accounting firm in New Smyrna Beach. Though grateful for the opportunity and experience, I left that firm after two years. Uncertain of my future, an acquaintance through the local chamber of commerce made me aware of a small tax practice for sale in Edgewater. I purchased that tax practice a month later and I have never looked back. I thoroughly enjoy what I do. I realize there is a better than fair chance that I may have been dropped on my head as an infant, but I enjoy accounting, taxation and helping my clients.
